Brewery In Focus - Cross Bay: Brewing Artisan Ales with a Coastal Twist

Not only is Cross Bay Morecambe's only brewery but it proudly boasts over twenty beer styles produced by their twenty eight barrel plant, that notwithstanding Nightfall is my first Cross Bay ale. On the low ABV side of the session ales this well balanced bitter shows their brewing pedigree superbly.

Cross Bay Brewery is a microbrewery located in Morecambe, Lancashire, in the north of England. The brewery was founded in 2011 by the husband and wife team, Ben and Michelle Cross, who share a passion for brewing artisan ales with a coastal twist.

One of the things that sets Cross Bay Brewery apart is its commitment to using local and sustainable ingredients. The brewery sources its malt from a local supplier and uses hops from across the UK to create beers that are full of flavour and character. The brewery is also committed to reducing its environmental impact by using renewable energy sources and recycling its waste.

But what really makes Cross Bay Brewery special is its focus on creating beers that reflect the local coastal environment. Many of the brewery's beers are named after local landmarks or seafaring traditions, and the flavours of the beers are often inspired by the local flora and fauna.

Let's take a closer look at some of the beers produced by Cross Bay Brewery:

Nightfall

Smooth and well rounded Nightfall sits nicely in the mouth and has a gentle fruity taste with a hint of spice and a slightly resinous undertone. An easy drinking bitter with sweet fruit and woody notes which proves to be extremely moreish and the perfect accompaniment to a roast ham sandwich or a handful of pork scratchings. Nightfall is clear amber to the eye and has a hint of tropical fruit on the nose, it laces in concentric rings and its that pleasant symmetry which sums up this ale's character perfectly. "Inspired by...nightfall across the bay, illuminated by a full moon." Cross Bay
